New Drug Discovery Technology From South American Rain Forests
A British drug discovery company which has developed the world's fastest drug profiling system has joined forces with a Brazilian company to seek new medicines from the South American rain forests.


IFPMA Welcomes New WHO Director General
The International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Associations (IFPMA) warmly welcomes the nomination by the World Health Organization Executive Board of Dr. Margaret Chan for the post of Director-General of the WHO. Subject to approval by the full WHO membership, Dr. Chan will succeed Dr. Jong Wook Lee, who died so tragically at the beginning of the 59th World Health Assembly in Geneva in May 2006.


Designer Hens Lay Anti-Cancer Eggs
Scientists at Scotland's Roslin Institute that produced Dolly the Sheep have genetically modified "designer" hens to lay eggs containing proteins that can fight human forms of cancer and other diseases. It is thought this will make a range of existing drugs easier and cheaper to produce.The hens are producing proteins that have the potential to treat arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and malignant melanoma, or skin cancer.
