Ultracet is one of a group of combination medicines that contain the narcotic analgesics Tramadol and Acetaminophen, and are used to relieve pain. Ultracet may provide better pain relief than either medicine used alone would be able to, and may possibly allow lower doses than either medicine alone could.
Be sure to tell your doctor of any allergies you have whether it is to medication or food, preservatives, or dyes. Tell your doctor immediately if you are, or become pregnant, or are breastfeeding, as Ultracet may cause dependency in your baby. Also tell your doctor of any other medications you are taking, including vitamins and supplements, and any medical conditions you may have.
Avoid alcohol when taking this medicine.
It is very important that you take this medicine exactly as your doctor tells you to. Do not take more or less medicine than directed, and do not stop taking, or adjust your dosage of, Ultracet without discussing it with your doctor first.
If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do NOT double doses.
Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur: burning, itching, and redness of skin; vomiting ; chest pain; cough; difficulty swallowing; dizziness; fast heartbeat; hives; itching; puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips or tongue; shortness of breath; skin rash; tightness in chest; unusual tiredness or weakness; wheezing; or seizures.
ULTRACET (tramadol hydrochloride/acetaminophen) Tablets combines two analgesics, tramadol 37.5 mg and acetaminophen 325 mg. The chemical name for tramadol hydrochloride is (±)cis-2-[(dimethylamino)methyl]-1-(3-methoxyphenyl) cyclo-hexanol hydrochloride. The molecular weight of tramadol hydrochloride is 299.84. Tramadol hydrochloride is a white, bitter, crystalline and odorless powder. The chemical name for acetaminophen is N-acetyl-p-aminophenol. The molecular weight of acetaminophen is 151.17. Acetaminophen is an analgesic and antipyretic agent which occurs as a white, odorless, crystalline powder, possessing a slightly bitter taste. ULTRACET Tablets contain 37.5 mg tramadol hydrochloride and 325 mg acetaminophen and are light yellow in color. Inactive ingredients in the tablet are powdered cellulose, pregelatinized starch, sodium starch glycolate, starch, purified water, magnesium stearate, OPADRY Light Yellow, and carnauba wax.
