Strattera, or Atomoxetine, belongs to the group of medicines called selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors, and treats attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Strattera increases attention and decreases restlessness, and is used as part of a larger treatment program to handle and treat ADHD in adults and children.
Be sure to tell your doctor of any allergies you have whether it is to medication or food, preservatives, or dyes. Tell your doctor if you are, or become pregnant, or are breastfeeding, as it is unknown how Strattera may affect your baby. Also tell your doctor of any other medications you are taking, including vitamins and supplements, and any medical conditions you may have.
Avoid alcohol when taking this medicine.
It is very important that you take this medicine exactly as your doctor tells you to. Do not take more or less medicine than directed, and don’t stop taking Strattera without discussing it with your doctor first.
If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do NOT double doses.
Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur: hives or welts; irregular heartbeat; itching; large, hive-like swelling on face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or sex organs; redness of skin; skin rash; dark urine; flu-like symptoms; persistent anorexia; pruritus; right upper quadrant tenderness; or yellow eyes or skin.
STRATTERA (atomoxetine HCl) is a selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. Atomoxetine HCl is the R(-) isomer as determined by x-ray diffraction. The chemical designation is (-)-N-Methyl-3-phenyl-3-(o-tolyloxy)-propylamine hydrochloride. The molecular formula is C17H21NO·HCl, which corresponds to a molecular weight of 291.82. Atomoxetine HCl is a white to practically white solid, which has a solubility of 27.8 mg/mL in water. Each capsule contains atomoxetine HCl equivalent to 10, 18, 25, 40, 60, 80, or 100 mg of atomoxetine. The capsules also contain pregelatinized starch and dimethicone. The capsule shells contain gelatin, sodium lauryl sulfate, and other inactive ingredients. The capsule shells also contain one or more of the following: FD&C Blue No. 2, synthetic yellow iron oxide, titanium dioxide, red iron oxide. The capsules are imprinted with edible black ink.
