Propoxyphene is a Narcotic Analgesic used to treat pain. Propoxyphene works in the central nervous system (CNS) to relieve pain.

Be sure to tell your doctor of any allergies you have whether it is to medication or food, preservatives, or dyes. Tell your doctor immediately if you are, or become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. Also tell your doctor of any other medications you are taking, including vitamins and supplements, and any medical conditions you may have.

Avoid alcohol when taking this medicine.

It is very important that you take this medicine exactly as your doctor tells you to. Do not take more or less medicine than directed, and don’t stop taking Propoxyphene without discussing it with your doctor first.

If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do NOT double doses.

Get medical help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur: cold, clammy skin; confusion; convulsions; dizziness; drowsiness; low blood pressure; nervousness or restlessness; pinpoint pupils of eyes; slow heartbeat; slow or troubled breathing; or weakness.

Tell your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following side effects occur: fast, slow, or pounding heartbeat; feelings of unreality; hallucinations; hives, itching, or skin rash; irregular breathing; mental depression or other mood or mental changes; ringing or buzzing in the ears; shortness of breath, wheezing, or troubled breathing; swelling of face; trembling or uncontrolled muscle movements; or unusual excitement or restlessness.

Propoxyphene hydrochloride, USP is an odorless, white crystalline powder with a bitter taste. It is freely soluble in water. Chemically, it is (2S,3R)-(+)-4-(Dimethylamino)-3-methyl-1,2-diphenyl-2-butanol propionate (ester) hydrochloride. Each capsule contains 65 mg (172.9 mcmol)(No. 65) propoxyphene hydrochloride. It also contains D&C Red No. 33, FD&C Yellow No.6, gelatin, magnesium stearate, silicone, starch, titanium dioxide, and other inactive ingredients.
