Metronidazole is used to treat infections.
Be sure to tell your doctor of any allergies you have whether it is to medication or food, preservatives, or dyes. Tell your doctor immediately if you are, or become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. Also, tell your doctor of any other medications you are taking, including vitamins and supplements, and any medical conditions you may have.
It is very important that you take this medicine exactly as your doctor tells you to. If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do NOT double doses.
Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur: numbness, tingling, pain, or weakness in hands or feet or convulsions.
Tell your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following side effects occur: any vaginal irritation, discharge, or dryness not present before use of this medicine; black, tarry stools; blood in urine or stools; clumsiness or unsteadiness; frequent or painful urination; inability to control urine flow; mood or other mental changes; nausea and vomiting; pinpoint red spots on skin; sense of pelvic pressure; skin rash, hives, redness, or itching; sore throat and fever; stomach and back pain; and unusual bleeding or bruising.
MetroLotion(tm) (metronidazole lotion) Topical Lotion contains metronidazole, USP, at a concentration of 7.5 mg per gram (0.75% w/w) in a lotion consisting of benzyl alcohol, carbomer 941, cyclomethicone, glycerin, glyceryl stearate, light mineral oil, PEG-100 stearate, polyethylene glycol 400, potassium sorbate, purified water, steareth-21, stearyl alcohol, and sodium hydroxide and/or lactic acid to adjust pH. Metronidazole is an imidazole and is classified therapeutically as an antiprotozoal and antibacterial agent. Chemically, metronidazole is 2-methyl-5-nitro-1H-imidazole-1-ethanol. The molecular formula is C6H9N3O3 and molecular weight is 171.16.
