Corticosteroids like Methylprednisolone are used to provide relief for inflamed areas of the body. They lessen swelling, redness, itching, and allergic reactions. They are also often used for severe allergies or skin problems, asthma, or arthritis.
Be sure to tell your doctor of any allergies you have whether it is to medication or food, preservatives, or dyes. Tell your doctor immediately if you are, or become pregnant, or are breastfeeding, as it is unknown how Methylprednisolone may affect your baby. Also, tell your doctor of any other medications you are taking, including vitamins and supplements, and any medical conditions you may have.
It is very important that you take this medicine exactly as your doctor tells you to. If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do NOT double doses.
Tell your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following side effects occur: decreased or blurred vision; frequent urination; increased thirst; sudden blindness; burning, numbness, pain, or tingling at or near place of injection; confusion; excitement; false sense of well-being; hallucinations; mental depression; mistaken feelings of self-importance or being mistreated; mood swings; redness, swelling, or other sign of allergy or infection at place of injection; restlessness; or skin rash or hives.
The chemical name for methylprednisolone is pregna-1,4-diene-3,20 -dione, 11,17,21-trihydroxy-6-methyl-,(6a, 11b)- and the molecular weight is 374.48. The molecular formula is C22H30O5. Each Medrol tablet for oral administration contains 2 mg, 4 mg, 8 mg, 16 mg, 24 mg or 32 mg of methylprednisolone. 2 mg: Calcium stearate, corn starch, erythrosine sodium, lactose, mineral oil, sorbic acid, sucrose.
4 and 16 mg: Calcium stearate, corn starch, lactose, mineral oil, sorbic acid, sucrose.
8 and 32 mg: Calcium stearate, corn starch, FD&C yellow no.6, lactose, mineral oil, sorbic acid, sucrose.
24 mg: Calcium stearate, corn starch, FD&C yellow no.5, lactose, mineral oil, sorbic acid, sucrose.
