Lisinopril is one of a class of drugs known as ACE Inhibitors. When used as an antihypertensive, Lisinopril helps lower high blood pressure. As a vasodilator, Lisinopril may be used to treat congestive heart failure.
Be sure to tell your doctor of any allergies you have whether it is to medication or food, preservatives, or dyes. Also, tell your doctor of any other medications you are taking, including vitamins and supplements, and any medical conditions you may have.
Tell your doctor immediately if you are, or become pregnant, or are breastfeeding, as use during pregnancy can cause low blood pressure, severe kidney failure, too much potassium, or even the death of your baby.
It is very important that you take this medicine exactly as your doctor tells you to. If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do NOT double doses.
Check with your doctor if you have any signs of infection (chills, fever, or sore throat), or have severe or continuing diarrhea, or notice any signs of jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes). Be especially careful during exercise or hot weather. Get immediate medical attention if you experience any welts or swelling around your face, throat or tongue.
PRINIVIL (Lisinopril), a synthetic peptide derivative, is an oral long-acting angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor. Lisinopril is chemically described as (S)-1-[N2-(1-carboxy-3-phenylpropyl)-L-lysyl]-L-proline dihydrate. Its empirical formula is C21H31N3O5 · 2H2O Lisinopril is a white to off-white, crystalline powder, with a molecular weight of 441.52. It is soluble in water and sparingly soluble in methanol and practically insoluble in ethanol. PRINIVIL is supplied as 5 mg, 10 mg, 20 mg and 40 mg tablets for oral administration. In addition to the active ingredient lisinopril, each tablet contains the following inactive ingredients: calcium phosphate, mannitol, magnesium stearate, and starch. The 10 mg, 20 mg and 40 mg tablets also contain iron oxide.
