One of the Erythromycins, Ery-Tab is used as an Antiacne agent, an Antibacterial, and as a preoperative Bowel Preparation. They treat many kinds of infections. Erythromycins are also used to prevent strep infections in certain patients who may be allergic to penicillin. Ery-Tab is used in certain patients with the following medical conditions: Acne; Actinomycosis; Anthrax; Cancroids; Gastroparesis; Lyme disease; Lymphogranuloma venereum; and Relapsing fever.
These medicines may also be used to treat Legionnaires' disease, but won’t work for colds, flu, or other virus infections.
Be sure to tell your doctor of any allergies you have whether it is to medication or food, preservatives, or dyes. Also, tell your doctor of any other medications you are taking, including vitamins and supplements, and any medical conditions you may have.
It is very important that you take this medicine exactly as your doctor tells you to. Do not take more or less medicine than directed, and never stop taking Ery-Tab just because your symptoms seem to have gotten better.
If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do NOT double doses.
Tell your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur: fever; nausea; skin rash, redness, or itching; stomach pain; unusual tiredness or weakness; vomiting; repeated fainting; irregular or slow heartbeat; and temporary loss of hearing.
ERYC capsules contain enteric-coated pellets of erythromycin base for oral administration. Each ERYC capsule contains 250 mg of erythromycin base. Also contains: lactose NF, povidone USP, FD&C Yellow #6 and other ingredients. The capsule shell contains gelatin NF, titanium dioxide USP, FD&C Yellow #6. Erythromycin is produced by a strain of Saccharopolyspora erythraea (formerly Streptomyces erythraeus) and belongs to the macrolide group of antibiotics. It is basic and readily forms salts with acids but it is the base which is microbiologically active. Erythromycin base is (3R *, 4S *, 5S *, 6R *, 7R *, 9R *, 11R *, 12R *, 13S *, 14R *)-4- [(2,6-Dideoxy-3-C-methyl- 3-O-methyl-a-L-ribo-hexopyranosyl)oxy]-14-ethyl-7,12,13- trihydroxy-3,5,7,9,11,13-hexamethyl-6-[[3,4,6- trideoxy-3-(dimethylamino)-b-D-xylo- hexopyranosyl]oxy]-oxacyclo-tetradecane-2,10-dione.
