Adderall (also known as Dextroamphetamine and amphetamine) is one of a group of medicines known as Central Nervous System (CNS) stimulants. They are used to treat Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Amphetamines are also used in the treatment of Narcolepsy, a sleeping disorder.
Amphetamines should NOT be used for weight loss, to combat unusual tiredness or weakness, or replace sleep. Using amphetamines for these purposes may be dangerous to your health.
Be sure to tell your doctor of any allergies you have whether it is to medication or food, preservatives, or dyes. Tell your doctor immediately if you are, or become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. Also, tell your doctor of any other medications you are taking, including vitamins and supplements, and any medical conditions you may have.
Avoid alcohol when taking this medicine.
It is very important that you take this medicine exactly as your doctor tells you to. Do not take more or less medicine than directed, and do not it more often or for longer than your doctor recommends. Amphetamines can be habit forming, so it is very important to go to your doctor regularly.
If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose. Do NOT double doses.
Check with your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following side effects occur: anxiety; crying; depersonalization; dry mouth; dysphoria; euphoria; fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse; hyperventilation; irritability; mental depression; nervousness; paranoia; quick to react or overreact emotionally; rapidly changing moods; restlessness; shaking; shortness of breath; or trouble sleeping.
Inactive Ingredients and Colors: The inactive ingredients in ADDERALL XRÒ capsules include: gelatin capsules, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, methacrylic acid copolymer, opadry beige, sugar spheres, talc, and triethyl citrate. Gelatin capsules contain edible inks, kosher gelatin, and titanium dioxide. The 5 mg, 10 mg, and 15 mg capsules also contain FD&C Blue #2. The 20 mg, 25 mg, and 30 mg capsules also contain red iron oxide and yellow iron oxide.
